Ms Michelle Razo attended the BSSH 9.3 Instructional Course in Manchester on 9 June 2025, a specialist programme focused on inflammatory and degenerative arthritis of the hand and wrist. The course brought together surgeons and Hand Therapists to explore current thinking across medical management, surgical options and the balance between function and pain relief.

Programme content

The course covered a broad range of topics relevant to both surgical and therapeutic practice:

  • Arthritic wrist
  • Thumb osteoarthritis
  • Rheumatoid hand
  • MCP joint deformities
  • Managing red hot swollen joints
  • Psoriatic arthropathy
  • Ultrasound for hand surgeons
  • Joint denervation, arthroplasty and fusion
  • Managing post-trapeziectomy pain
  • Hand therapy for osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis
  • Tendon complications in rheumatoid arthritis
  • PIP joint management

Faculty presentations were grounded in real-world clinical experience, making the content directly applicable to everyday practice for both surgeons and Hand Therapists.

Relevance to patient care

Arthritis of the hand and wrist is one of the most common presentations in specialist Hand Therapy practice. Keeping current with developments in surgical management, emerging medical treatments and evolving rehabilitation approaches ensures that Ms Razo’s patients benefit from the most up-to-date thinking available — whether they are being managed non-operative, awaiting surgery or recovering post-procedure.
