Ms Michelle Razo delivered a specialist Hand Therapy course at Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City (SSMC) in Abu Dhabi on 20 September 2024, teaching X-ray interpretation within the hospital’s Occupational Therapy Department.
About SSMC
Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City is one of the largest and most advanced tertiary care hospitals in the UAE. As a Joint Commission International (JCI) Gold Seal-accredited academic medical centre, it operates to internationally recognised standards across clinical care, education and patient safety.
The Occupational Therapy Department includes a dedicated Hand Therapy clinic focused on rehabilitation following hand surgery and trauma — a setting that provided a clinically relevant context for specialist teaching on radiographic interpretation.
The course
The session covered the systematic interpretation of plain X-rays within Hand Therapy practice, equipping Occupational Therapists with a structured framework for reading radiographic findings relevant to hand and wrist conditions. The ability to interpret imaging is an increasingly valued clinical skill for Hand Therapists working in settings where close collaboration with surgical teams is the norm.
International education
Abu Dhabi forms part of Ms Razo’s ongoing programme of international teaching, which spans the UAE, Qatar and the United States. For information about inviting Ms Razo to deliver Hand Therapy education at your institution, please visit the speaking and media page.
