Specialist Hand Therapy for TFCC Injuries

Hand & Upper Limb Rehab for TFCC Injuries

As a Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) I provide specialist Hand Therapy and Upper Limb Rehab for TFCC injuries in Belfast and Northern Ireland. TFCC stands for Triangular Fibrocartilage Complex which is a structure in the wrist that helps with stabilisation.

TFCC injuries can be a complex condition to address. However, I am passionate about demystifying and treating this very common presentation with favourable outcomes. I have a proven track record for successfully rehabilitating TFCC injuries both in-person and virtually via tele-rehabilitation. This even being the case when everything and everyone else has failed.

TFCC Injury Symptoms

TFCC conditions can occur from wrist trauma / injury or gradual wear-and-tear. The most common symptoms associated with TFCC damage are:

Wrist Pain

Pain associated with TFCC conditions is most often located around the ulnar side of the wirst. Ulnar refers to the area or side in line with the little finger. The pain can also worsen during certain activities.

Weakness

TFCC conditions can lead to a feeling of decreased power in the hand, wrist and sometimes even higher up into your arm. This can sometimes be combined with your wrist feeling unstable. Grip strength is often decreased.

Wrist Stiffness

Those with TFCC problems may or may not experience a loss of wrist range of movement. A thorough examination can confirm if a sensation of wrist stiffness equates to a true loss of mobility. Decreased range of movement can be present on rotation, moving your wrist / hand back and forth or side-to-side.

Wrist Instability

Individuals who have a TFCC pathology can often feel that their wrists are unstable. This may translate into feeling or hearing clicking, popping or clunking in your wrist when it moves. These can lead to irritation that makes your wrist more tender and painful.
