What is a Certified Hand Therapist (CHT)?
Becoming a Certified Hand Therapist is voluntary and difficult to attain. It is a world recognised and distinguished credential. There are currently only a handful of CHT’s in the United Kingdom. Certification involves meeting rigorous standards and developing a long-range career path. Occupational Therapists or Physiotherapists seeking certification must acquire the advanced study, training and practice required to pass the Hand Therapy Certification Commission (HTCC) examination.
CHT's are therapists who demonstrate a personal dedication to the profession of Hand Therapy and a desire for advanced competency. They bring to their work a commitment, passion and dedication to reach and maintain the highest standards in their profession.
As a Certified Hand Therapist, Michelle holds the advanced specialist skills to merge Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy theory into practice. While Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists have distinctly different training and roles in rehabilitation, therapists with the CHT credential provide the same type of treatment, regardless of their professional background. This is uncommon in Northern Ireland as most therapists will be limited to their field of qualification.
